Homo genius

a Song of Creation in Four Books

Homo genius tells the story of an Artist's journey towards God, in the travels and experiences throughout his lifetime. Each Book in the Song describes a period of the Artist's life: from before Creation (The Red Book) through to youth (The White Book), middle-age (The Blue Book), and finally old-age (The Yellow Book).

The Song is based on the 20 Days and 13 Tones of the Mayan Calendar.

There are three main components to Homo genius: the source material, a live performance, and an interactive multimedia presentation of the work.

The source material consists of a libretto, illuminated paintings, and a musical score. The live event consists of a performance of the libretto and score, with visuals and costumes stemming from the illuminated paintings, as well as dance and movement. The interactive multimedia piece will use media recorded form the live performance, as well as the source material, to create an interactive experience of the work, on the web and dvd.

The Song takes inspiration from Mayan story and imagery, the Tarot, William Blake's illuminated books, The Book of Kells, and the art of Dave McKean - to name a few narrative and visual sources. Musically it draws inspiration largely from improvised musics, including: blues, noise and free jazz. But also is concerned with operatic and 20th classical musics.

At present, the text for The Red Book is complete. And the illuminated paintings and music has begun for The White Book, as well as having a completed text. Links to the the remaining Books describe the general narrative outline for each.
